We are very proud of our excellent D1 pass rates for minibus driver training. Castle has always been above the national average for pass rates, and 2019 was certainly no exception. In fact, we have now trained over 2,000 candidates since 2013, the length and breadth of the country, with 1 in 8 people choosing to train with Castle.
Castle’s D1 pass rates
The infographic above breaks down the UK into separate regions, giving a percentage of D1 minibus tests passed under Castle’ instruction and guidance. This includes both theory tests and practical assessments.
It is important to note at this point, that whilst our driver trainers are assigned a region, it is not the case that they only stay within it. If we have a candidate who requires a practical day before their test, we will do our upmost to ensure you are catered for.
‘Thanks again to you for finding a trainer, and to the trainer herself for stepping in – it would have been extremely difficult for me to rearrange given the pressures on teaching staff time.’ L Simmonds, Langley Grammar School
Did you know, the D1 test is broken down into three separate sections?
- Theoretical: Hazard perception
- Theoretical: Multiple choice questions
- Practical assessment
You will not pass the practical assessment without passing both sections of the theoretical test. Many unsuccessful candidates have fallen at the first or second hurdle and found the theory test harder than anticipated. But Castle will support you through this process. It’s one of the reasons for our higher success rate.
Tailored support for driver candidates
All candidates are given access to an online portal to prepare for the theory test and assigned a trainer for support during the study period, as well as for the practical driver training. You have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and may well receive prompts to spend more time online to prepare.
‘I have been very pleased indeed with your whole process. Your support with reminders and the software for practising the theory has made it all seamless. The tailored advice meant that I could go on with confidence. Overall an excellent experience and I would thoroughly recommend Castle to anyone seeking to obtain their D1 licence.’ G Andrews, Sidcot School
Support for School Business Managers and admin staff
Many of our schools tell us that our help with the organisation and coordination of the training, minibus walk-around check, theory training and theory and practical test elements have been invaluable in saving them time and supporting their candidates for the best possible outcome.
‘We are delighted that both our candidates have passed [their D1]! They both thoroughly enjoyed the training and as a school we have been very impressed with the quality and administration of all contact with Castle. In addition, both candidates gave very positive feedback about your trainer.’ L Bainbridge, Bernard Gilpin Primary School
With the exception of booking staff’s medical checks, although we can recommend a national specialist company, Castle will take care of all the paperwork for the D1 and booking the theory and practical tests. Administration staff only have to gather the relevant paperwork and let Castle know as their candidate progresses through the medical and theory tests and Castle will take care of everything else.
121 practical training
Castle’s ADI driver trainers offer one to one practical driver training the day before and the morning of the practical test. This has two positives; 1. The candidate gets 1-2-1 dedicated tuition rather than sharing time and a vehicle with other candidates and 2. The driver is only out of school for two days keep the costs of cover low.
Maintaining our excellent standards
The Castle standard of training is very high. We work hard to give you or your candidates the best chance of passing the D1 minibus licence test, coordinating online support with practical skills guidance.
At the end of 2019 we were very pleased to discover we have maintained our excellent pass rates, which stand at 89%, currently 50% higher than the national average (some say the national average is increasing, thanks to Castle’s high standards).
