Castle’s MCC (Minibus Compliance Course)

Our MCC was developed and written in consultation with senior regulator and specialist in this area, former Senior Traffic Commissioner for Great Britain, Beverley Bell and is delivered by highly experienced ADI driver trainers. It is delivered on behalf of the ISBA to their member schools and has been approved by RoSPA.

Suitable for any member of staff that is involved with the management of the minibuses from heads to Bursars, to teachers and estate managers. The MCC is held regularly at our dedicated training centre in Bicester, Oxfordshire as well as at convenient locations across the UK.

‘The law in this area is complex and not always easily understood by schools and their teaching staff, with severe penalties for non-compliance, as well as the risk to the safety of your pupils. It is therefore vital that your school gets it right and can prove they have taken steps to do so’

Beverley Bell, Former Senior Traffic Commissioner

Safety First

Compliance is not only a legal requirement it is a crucial element of ensuring you’re running safe vehicles. Understanding licences, vehicle weights, safety inspections, daily checks and the on-the-road challenges of driving a minibus will dramatically increase your safety levels and enable you to implement a comprehensive safety system.

Part 1

A classroom-based day, covering four key areas.

  1. The legal minefield: Guiding you through the permits and licences which you operate under, depending on the status of your drivers and the type of school you work for, including who has the responsibility for legal compliance
  2. Vehicles: Looking at the differences in driving a minibus and the challenges teacher-drivers face, best practice weekly and daily minibus checks and the required safety inspections
  3. Drivers: Covering driver management, driver responsibilities and licences
  4. The journey: Things you need to consider when planning journeys and emergency protocols.

Part 2

The Green Light Assessment.

Included in the price for ISBA members and a follow up option for non-member schools the MCC’s Green Light Assessment is carried out within 6 months of attending the MCC once a School Transport Manager has been appointed.

The assessment is designed to support schools in any changes they have put in place since the MCC part 1 and ensure that if there was an ‘inspection’ that your school would get the green light where minibus compliance and management was concerned.

The assessment takes place on-site with the transport manager and one of Castle’s ADI instructors who deliver the MCC. The areas that will be covered are sent in advance of the visit to ensure your aware of all that will be covered and can prepare appropriately.

Reduce your insurance premiums

Castle Minibus offer insurance to our short-term hire and leasing customers. If you attend Castle’s MMC and complete the Green Light Assessment you will be entitled to a 10% discount on your insurance premiums as you will have proven your commitment to safer drivers and will have an increased awareness of safety issues.  Read more about our insurance policies

Pricing

The MCC part 1 is available to non-ISBA members for £395 and the Green Light Assessment for £395. The ISBA member package is £495 for both parts of the MCC.

Really good range of activities and walk around the minibus broke things up well and provided an opportunity to discuss matters with other participants.

Sanj Dhadda, Business Manager, Arnold Lodge School

‘I really enjoyed the [MCC] course in Cardiff yesterday, it was very worthwhile. Cliff did say that if we needed any

Section 19 Permits you could send some. Could I possibly have six please?

I ask because Cliff’s warning that the DVSA were doing their rounds was very timely. I had a phone call at 7.30pm last night to say that the Police and a DVSA inspector had followed one of our minibuses back to School after their evening run and did a spot check. All OK apart from the fact that although the permit was in the bus it wasn’t on display – hence my request!

Kind regards
Sarah’
